FUND RAISING FILM NIGHT FOR ORPHANAGE IN INDIA

Internet sales for the fundraising event are now CLOSED as I'm preparing for tonight.

If you want to reserve a ticket at the door please call me on 021-361400. Tickets are nearly sold out so there may not be any available at the door unless otherwise reserved.

Thanks.

Wednesday April 7th, The Hollywood Cinema, Avondale. 7.30pm

See the latest award-winning film from acclaimed Auckland-based screenwriter Shuchi Kothari – and help raise funds for an Indian orphanage with a Kiwi connection. The film – called Firaaq – is based on a thousand stories of ordinary people caught up in the Gujurat riots in 2002: perpetrators, victims and bystanders. It includes the compelling story of
an orphan child called Mohsin.

Art auction of Bro Town, Flox of Cut Collective and Misery put under the hammer by guest auctioneer Madeleine Sami.

All tickets also go in the draw to win a gift basket including Shiseido cosmetics, Trade Aid products, an aromatherapy massage, a handprinted teatowel from Cut Collective, a recycled coffee sack shopping bag, a Healthy Home Starter Kit from Eco Store and dinner for two at Little India Restaurant.

WHAT IS AKAASH GANGA? www.akaashganga.org
Akaash Ganga means River of Stars and is a home for 30 abandoned and destitute children, from 5 – 16 years old in The Little Raan of Kutch, Gujarat, India. The home was opened by Dhanraj Malik to respond to the hostile conditions of salt workers in the area of Gujarat who live below the poverty line and eat only one chapatti and chilli a day. Children work in the grimmest of environments in up to 50-degree temperatures for 18 hours at a time, with no shade and living in appalling conditions next to the salt plains.

WE HAVE THE ABILITY TO GIVE THEM A FUTURE
The home has space for 80 children but presently there are 30 as funds are limited. Unlike the western world, there are no social services to provide basic care and shelter for families and children. There is also no justice for children who are sexually abused or victims of incest. Dhanraj is empowering these girls by educating them and teaching them useful trades such as sewing, repairing mobile phones and computers. He believes that if the mother is well educated the whole family will be.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Lack of funds and staff means that almost daily Akaash Ganga turns away families walking in with their children. This fund raising film night will raise money to help Akaash Ganga keep their doors open, house and educate more children and give them hope for their future. We have the ability to make a change to these children’s lives.
